NEWS 2009At our December 29 meeting, Lizzie Gregory, Denise Sirius, and Jeff Yoder(faculty counselor) of the Midland High School Key Club reported on their recent activities. Also, Bridget Sullivan from the Railway Family Center in Colemen reported on activities of the Center. The December 22 meeting was a presentation by the Audit Committee of their annual report. Our Annual Christmas Party for spouses was December 15. Our December 8 meeting was our annual Kid's Christmas Party. This year it was held at Eastlawn School. The Kiwassee Kiwanis Chime Choir made their World Premier performance at the December 1 meeting.
Updates on the work of the Kiwassee Kiwanis Foundation and the Kiwanis of Michigan Foundation were the highlights of our
November 24 meeting.
Judy Harris of Midland Quilters spoke about needs of Haitian children at our October 27 meeting. The October 20 meeting was a preview of our Candy and Nut Fund Raiser which will start in November. Mike Hayes, founder of Main Street Consulting, spoke on some of the economic issues facing the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance at our October 13 meeting. The inductions of officers for the 2009-2010 fiscal year was the main topic at our our October 6 meeting.
The President's Annual Report was the main topic at our September 29 meeting.
Our September 15 and September 22 meetings were year-end committee reports.
Officer Chris Wenzel, Midland Police Department S.W.A.T. Team,
was the speaker at our September 8 meeting.
At our September 1 meeting, Dick Dolinski, founder and leader of
the Legacy Center for Student Success,
spoke about recent studies his organization had made on factors influencing learning.
Greg Dorrien, Director of the West Midland Family Center, told about some of the activities of the Center at our May 26 meeting. At our May 19 meeting, President Ray Senesac told about the history of our national anthem, and member Bruce Vickey told about volunteer work he does in Florida with immigrants. Our May 12 meeting was our annual Pig Auction. It was held at the Midland Community Center. We had a special Kids Against Hunger meal. At our May 5 meeting, Jack Telfer, Editor of the Midland Daily News, talked about changes in the newspaper industry. Keith Priddy, President and CEO of Northwood University, spoke about the University at our April 28 meeting. April 21 was our annual Prayer Luncheon. Don Winger reminisced on some of his life experiences. Casey Salminen, chief Friend Raiser for Eagle Village, with help from board member Bob Spears, spoke about the Village at our April 14 meeting. Bridget Sullivan, Director of the Railway Family Center in Coleman, talked about the Center at our April 7 meeting. Midland Public Schools Superintendent Carl Ellinger discussed the May 5th Midland County Revenue Enhancement Millage Proposal at our March 31 meeting. President Ray Senesac presented a midyear recap of club activities at our March 24 meeting. At our March 17 meeting, Renee Yates announced plans for The Annual Golf Outing Fundraiser, scheduled for Friday, May 15, at the PohlCat Golf Course in Mt. Pleasant. Jean Senninger, Administrator at Pinecrest Farms, told about the new building at their facility at our March 10 meeting. Our March 3 meeting highlighted Senior Youth activities. Natalie Fort and Elaine Vo of the Midland High School Key Club talked about some of their activities. Senior Youth Co-Chair Terri Malek-Madani reviewed the Dow College Preparation Program which she personally directs at the West Midland Family Center.
Reports on our Travel and Adventure and Candy and Nuts fund raisers highlighted our January 27 meeting. The January 20(Inauguration Day) meeting was limited to presentations and announcements. The annual Audit Committee report was the program for the January 13 meeting. At our January 6 meeting, Mike Briggs gave a statistical report on a club assessment survey in which members participated last November.
